Rugger Ratz Halifax

Rugger Ratz is a family business, started by Rugby League professional, Jode Sheriffe and his wife Joleene, a paramedic and ex Halifax RUFC second rower. “Our eldest son, Tyreese, was our inspiration – we created Rugger Ratz because we wanted to introduce him to the joy of rugby in a safe, controlled and fun environment.“

“Classes have soon become popular, with children now moving through the classes as they grow and learn more skills. We’re introducing new classes and locations to bring our special programme to more children throughout Yorkshire”.

All Rugger Ratz classes run throughout the year, in term-time and holidays.

Age 3-5  Duration: 45 mins

This class encourages more independence by asking parents to step back (have a nice quiet cuppa in The Dance Mill lounge) while we build your child’s existing skills and develop new ones.

We switch to a size 2 rugby ball for these sessions giving the children opportunity to get used to a real rugby ball without it being too big or heavy.

We will start to introduce more rugby-specific skills during these play sessions, whilst maintaining the emphasis on fun. All children enjoy fruit at the end of training to encourage them to have a healthy lifestyle.

Skills: As for the 2-3 class plus running with the ball using both hands for maximum control, side stepping, reaction, coordination, passing-static and on the move, high and low catching, kicking off the cone and from the hands, non-contact tackle techniques with our junior rolling tackle bag.
